Nicole Junkermann: Using AI to Spot Gaps in a Plan

Plans for new technology often read well and still skip something important. Nicole Junkermann describes AI as an early check on those gaps, while the people involved choose which ones to examine more closely.

A plan can sound clear and still miss a step. AI can help spot gaps. You decide what needs a closer look.

Three key points

  • Clear language does not guarantee a complete plan.
  • AI can act as a second reader that flags missing steps.
  • People still choose which gaps are worth closing.

A second reader for technical plans

Every engineering team knows the feeling of discovering, halfway through a build, that a step was never in the plan. A migration nobody scheduled, a dependency nobody owned, a test that was assumed rather than written. Nicole Junkermann sees AI as a useful second reader at the planning stage: it can compare a plan against its own stated goals, ask where each step leads and point out the places where the logic jumps. That is valuable precisely because it is cheap and fast, so it can be done on every draft rather than once. The judgement still belongs to the team. Some gaps matter, some are deliberate, and only the people building the thing can tell the difference.
